We love getting out and enjoying our desert backyard, but since we moved to this house, it’s been broiling-hot outside. Most days we just look longingly at all the space and wish it were cooler out. Lately in the evenings we’ve been getting a little break – if we’re lucky it dips below 100 and the little villagers are begging to get out and play. Usually I keep the tiniest villager in barefeet so she can’t get too far too fast, cause lets face it my idea of playing is to sit comfortably in my chair, reading a magazine while others play. Unfortunately she’s learned how to beat the system and doesn’t care that she’s running on rocks and cactus needles.
Last night I gave her the thrill of all thrills and put her tiny little shoes on. She was literally squealing with happiness as she ran at top speed around the yard. Of course now I have to run with her, while juggling approx. a billion dollars worth of camera equipment. Oh Joy! It seems like you’re getting a break in the temp when you’re sitting on the patio with a chilled glass of wine in one hand, magazine in the other. It does NOT seem like there’s been a break in the temp when you are running after a superfast toddler who never gets to wear shoes!
As if chasing her isn’t enough fun, I also get to warn her about any dangerous plants in the yard (everysingleoneofthem) – man, this outdoor fun is awesome!!!
My suspicious eyes see every gravel indent as mountain lion tracks. Hey – you just never know!
But then you see the smiles and the happiness and even the road rashed knees and you know it’s all worth it (even if it does sting when you take your bedtime bath!).
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. I love comments – I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to.
